Dear Parents:

Our Lady of Lavang Parish welcomes you and your family to the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism. Receiving Baptism is such a great gift, not only for the newly baptized, but for their entire family and the parish community. During the Sacrament of Baptism, the parents, godparents and entire congregation are called upon to remember our own baptismal vows and the grace with which we have been blessed.  Our Lady of Lavang Parish vows to support the faith journey of the baptized to help them realize their full, God-given potential.

The information below outlines the requirement and process to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism at Our Lady of Lavang for your child:

1)  Age: Your child must be six years old or younger on the Baptism date. If your child is 7 or older, please contact our Parish office for details on Baptism/RCIA program.

2)  Scheduling: The Sacrament of Infant Baptism are celebrated every first Sunday of the Month around 12:15pm after the 11:00am Mass.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE PARENTS

Before scheduling a Baptismal Date for your child, parents must:

  1. Complete the online registration registration form. (click here)
  2. Complete the online class and assessment on the Sacrament of Baptism. (click here)
  3. Submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate to the parish office.
  4. Help choose a godparent for your child. A godparent has the responsibility to assist parents in nurturing and teaching faith to the young child. Therefore, it is recommended that the parents consider the following criteria in selecting a godparent:
    1. Does the person truly exemplify the faith, by living according to the teachings of the Catholic Church?
    2. Does the person live a life in harmony with the Church?
    3. Does the person regularly practice their faith by participation in the sacramental life of the church?

REQUIREMENTS OF THE GODPARENT(S)

A godparent has the responsibility to assist the parents in nurturing and teaching the faith of the young child. Therefore, the following are some criteria to consider in becoming a good godparent:

  1. A Catholic who lives an upright Catholic faith and has no penalties from the Church (Ex: divorced and remarried without the consent of the Church)
  2. It is highly recommended for the godparent to live close proximity of the child’s family and have a relationship with the family in order to be part of the child’s lifelong journey of faith
  3. To be a good example to the child, practicing the Catholic faith regularly.
  4. Lastly, the godparent must complete and submit the requirements listed below:
    1. Complete and submit the “Godparents Affirmation Certificate” form –  (click here to download & print)
    2. Complete the online class and assessment on the Sacrament of Baptism. (click here)

Note: Parents and Godparent must complete and submit all required forms and records one week before the scheduled Date of Baptism.
